We're starting to feel awfully sympathetic for ousted "X Factor" judge Cheryl Cole.

Though she's been officially cut loose by both the U.S. and U.K. iterations of the reality franchise, multiple outlets report the pop star's "X Factor" dramas are far from over.

The Hollywood Reporter cites a source close to Cole, who says producers at Fremantle don't even want to pay her for the time she put in. Cole now has to appear at the U.S. consulate in London and apply for a visa in order to get paid for the work she did.

The story also claims that it was indeed executive producer Simon Cowell behind the firing and that he expected she would return to the British version with no hard feelings.

Whether she's paid for it or not, Cole did put in four days of work screening auditions for the first season. And that footage will make it to air.

The Mirror reports Cole will be billed as "guest judge" for her brief stint when the series premieres in the fall.

"Yes, of course Cheryl will be on the American show," executive producer Richard Holloway tells the paper. "She did auditions in two cities and we will reflect that."
