Disney's 'Cinderella': Helena Bonham Carter to play Lily James' fairy godmother

helena-bonham-carter-cinderella-fairy-godmother-gi.jpg Helena Bonham Carter will play fairy godmother to Lily James' Cinderella in the Disney live-action update to the classic fairytale. Kenneth Branagh will direct his former paramour in the role.

Other "Cinderella" cast previously announced include Cate Blanchett as wicked stepmother Lady Tremaine, "Game of Thrones" star Richard Madden as Prince Charming.

The evil stepsisters will reportedly be played by Holliday Grainger ("The Borgias") and Sophie McShera ("Downton Abbey").

"Cinderella" was scripted by Aline Brosh McKenna ("27 Dresses," "The Devil Wears Prada") and Chris Weitz ("About A Boy"), and will shoot in London. A 2014 release date is expected.

Bonham Carter can be seen next in Disney's "The Lone Ranger," in theaters July 3. The Gore Verbinski-helmed adaptation stars Johnny Depp as Tonto and Armie Hammer in the title role.
