CMA Awards 2011: Even Nashville can't escape Kim Kardashian

eric-stonestreet-cmas.jpgHad the CMA Awards aired a week earlier this year, the Kim Kardashian bit "Modern Family" star Eric Stonestreet did with hosts Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley probably would have killed.

But they didn't air a week ago, when news of Kardashian ending her 72-day marriage to Kim Kardashian was fresher news. They aired Wednesday (Nov. 9). Still, thanks to some deft work by the awards show's production team -- and, OK, a couple genuinely funny lines from the trio on stage -- it worked fairly well anyway.

Stonestreet, Underwood and Paisley sang a little song with the refrain "72 days, amen," and they traded stories about how many "forevers" they've been with their respective significant others. Underwood and NHL player Mike Fisher have been married a little more than a year, or about seven forevers. Paisley and wife Kimberly Williams-Paisley's eight-year marriage counts as 43 forevers.

The show also got great mileage out of reaction shots from several people the parody song, including Lady Antebellum's Hillary Scott, Taylor Swift and Williams-Paisley -- whose smile when Paisley made a joke about how long their marriage has felt carried a distinct you're-sleeping-on-the-couch-tonight-bub vibe. Still, nice work by the show's director and camera crew.
