'Dancing With the Stars': Maksim Chmerkovskiy takes a stand

Dancing-With-the-Stars-Hope-and-Makscropped.jpgForget the dancing. Far more was going on Monday (Oct. 24) on "Dancing With the Stars." Really, there were very few surprises in the leader boards. Karina Smirnoff and J.R. Martinez tied with Ricki Lake and Derek Hough for first place with two 10's each and we had the first group dance of the season on this Broadway-themed show. Kristin Chenoweth performed. But all anyone was talking about on the press line afterwards was the outburst from Maksim Chmerkovskiy.

If you missed the show, here is the deal: After judge Len Goodman called Monday's number the worst dance Maks and Hope Solo have had all season, he said it was half Maks' fault.  When he began saying that he's been in the business for 50 years, Maks replied that maybe it was time to leave. When he got up to the sky box, he said that this was his show and that he loved everyone on it. The shocked gasps from the audience were intense.

"It just came to the point where I'd kind of had enough," Maks told Zap2it after the show. "It's like this. Give us the best score, but don't call us out. Say, 'it wasn't my cup of tea.'  We've heard that before. 'It was not what I was hoping to see. It's not my type of Rumba.' Great. You can't please everyone and everyone is entitled to their opinion.

He continued: "But don't tell us it was your worst dance of the season because you're an idiot and you know it's not true. I've also danced for 27 years and I've won more titles than Len ever even participated in. That's not to disrespect his opinion because we've all been here for 13 seasons - I respect where they come from. I'm just not going to sit back and let my partner get disrespected."

He said that Hope thanked him after his comments to Len.

"She finally realized that I have her back," he said.

Maks was asked if he agrees with Lacey about the judges' name calling going too far this season.

"Absolutely," he said. "When a crowd is behind us - the judges like when they give a 10 and the crowd goes crazy. They think it's them they're clapping for. But when the crowd is booing and I'm showing that we're doing this for the people, and then Len calls me and says it's your fault that I don't like your rumba. I don't like that."

Maks said he only had one regret. That there would be headlines saying that he called "Dancing With the Stars" his show. He cleared up his meaning for us. "I never said that. What I did say is that I feel like it's my show and together, with other pros, I've dedicated six years of my life to this show. And I've helped make it what it is. But I never took it away from everybody else who participated."

So, what did you guys think of Maks' outburst? Do you respect him for standing up for Hope or do you think he was out of line? Let us know your thoughts. Check out the video of Maks and Len going at it.
