David Archuleta's album 'The Other Side of Down' -- what do you think?

David-Archuleta-The-other-Side-of-Down.jpg"American Idol" finalist David Archuleta released his third album, titled "The Other Side of Down," Tuesday (Oct. 5) -- what do you think, Archie fans?

We think it will be well-received by his fans and definitely reflects the place Archuleta is in his life right now. It's a mixture of love songs and uplifting songs of encouragement, which is pretty much what we expected.

The first four or five songs on the album are all fairly similar. There's nothing bad about any of them, but they are light, bubble gum pop with a dance beat background that kind of blur together.

When the album really picks up, for us, is on the the sixth track, "Falling Stars," which is a gorgeous ballad with piano accompaniment that really shows off David's range. Our other favorite piece is "My Kind of Perfect," which is about a young man looking for his love that he knows is out there and he'll keep searching until he finds the girl who is perfect for him. It's, well, perfect for teens and young adults looking for love, but also shows off some of the maturity Archie has always had.

We also fully expect to see David perform the uplifting number "Things Are Gonna Get Better," which starts off softer and ends with a full gospel choir, if they do "Idol Gives Back" this year. It's like it was written just for that occasion.

Overall, solid effort. Archie can still belt out the tunes with aplomb and we think his fans will be very happy with "The Other Side of Down." You can purchase the album at any number of places, including Amazon, iTunes and David's official site. You can also watch the music video of "Something 'Bout Love" here.
