'Devious Maids': Eva Longoria to direct Season 2 premiere, appear at future date
"Devious Maids" is getting a big name director for its Season 2 premiere. Executive producer Eva Longoria is going to make her directorial debut on the first episode of the Lifetime series' second season, and is currently prepping it now.
Series creator Marc Cherry reveals at the TCA 2014 winter press tour that he also has plans for Longoria to appear on "Devious Maids," though probably not in Season 2. "The Eva Longoria card, I will play that at some point eventually," he promises.
Expect to "see some new faces and say goodbye to some other faces" in the upcoming season. But while Cherry's previous series "Desperate Hosuewives" went a little wild in Season 2, he has a clear plan for "Devious Maids."
"Know what your second season is before you write your first season," Cherry says of the lesson he learned from "Desperate Housewives." "When I did 'Desperate,' I was just trying to get through that first season."
Cherry makes it clear he has nothing but love for Lifetime and has had a wonderful experience working with the network. He reveals that he's only had one "no" from the network, which was about a casting decision, though Lifetime later caved on the refusal. "And that's why I love 'em," he admits.
"Lifetime was ready for us to have some sexy fun with the show, and we did," Cherry says.
The cast -- which includes Susan Lucci, Ana Ortiz, Dania Ramirez and Judy Reyes -- admits that they were told by real-life maids that their TV show doesn't do justice to the actual stories from homes.
"Whatever we can think of, the truth is stranger than fiction, and it gave us a lot of confidence going forward," Cherry says.
The second season of "Devious Maids" will premiere on Lifetime on April 20 at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
