Holy crap, guys. The Trinity Killer killed Rita and left Harrison sitting in her blood. Dexter's life has come full circle. He was born in blood in the shipping container where his mother was murdered and now Harrison was born in blood in the bathroom where his own mother was murdered. The one nice "out" they have in not making Harrison a serial-killer-in-training is that he's significantly younger than Dexter was when it happened to him -- Harrison is only like a year old and Dexter was 5 or 6 years old. We can all buy that Harrison is not as psychologically affected as Dexter was.

The other big "reveal" was Deb's finding out that the Ice Truck Killer was Dexter's half-brother.  Has she put it together yet that she and Dexter are actual half-siblings? This was resolved in season 1 and I had simply forgotten. My apologies. They are not actually related. I'm sure it's still quite the mind-trip for Deb, however.

There are so many questions about next season. What will happen to Astor and Cody? Will they stay in Dexter's life or go to live with their grandparents? Will he be a single dad to Harrison?  What about the Mitchell family? Did anybody else think Dexter's cover was blown right then and there when they got taken out of their house? There HAS to be some resolution with that, one would think.

Just on a personal note, two things:

Once I heard about the "big twist" at the end of "Dexter," I figured one of two things would happen: That Trinity would kill Dexter's family or that Dexter would kill his OWN family. Gruesome, to be sure, but not completely out of the realm of possibility for this show. I'm glad they went with option A. I love this show but I'm not sure I could go on rooting for a child killer.

Secondly, as much as I'm sad about Rita's death from the perspective of her three children and Dexter, I'm not that sad to see her go. I've never really liked Rita and I also can't wait to see how this plays out in the world of the show.

Finally, not to shill for Showtime or anything, but there is a live chat with John Lithgow tomorrow on the official site at 3 pm ET, noon PT. I'm going to drop by if I can, I think he did a masterful job this season. And I can't believe we have to wait until September for season five! Damn you, premium channels and your seasons that are only thirteen episodes long!
