'Doctor Who' Christmas special photos: Wooden Cybermen and the Doctor is a wizard?

Several new photos from the "Doctor Who" Christmas special, "The Time of the Doctor," have been released and they only create about a dozen more questions. As if there wasn't enough to wonder about already, like how  Matt Smith is the final Doctor with Peter Capaldi joining the show, now Whovians need to figure out why there are wooden Cybermen.

That's right, in addition to Daleks and a new character named Tasha Lem ( Orla Brady), there are Cybermen carved out of wood featured in the images. It's hard to take them as seriously or find them intimidating when you can simply set them on fire to keep warm in the winter.

There are also photos where the Doctor looks like a bit of a wizard, with a cape and wand. Of course, it's probably not a real wand. It looks like some kind of weird piece of technology the Doctor would get his hands on. Still, the similarities cannot be ignored. Maybe the Doctor's fondest Christmas wish is to be Harry Potter, and this is as close as he can get.

"The Time of the Doctor" airs at 9 p.m. ET Dec. 25 on BBC America.
