It was a big night for "Doctor Who" at Britain's 19th annual National Television Awards Wednesday (Jan. 22). Not only did the show win for Most Popular Drama, but Matt Smith was awarded Most Popular Performance in a Drama for his role as the Doctor.

Smith wasn't in the building to accept his award, but "Doctor Who" showrunner Steven Moffat and star Jenna-Louise Coleman were. Smith still sent a video along from backstage at a theater, where he's starring in a musical version of "American Psycho."

"Thank you for this wonderful, marvelous award," he says. "It's an honor to be in the same category as such fine and esteemed, wondrous actors." To win the award, he beat out the likes of Maggie Smith ("Downton Abbey"), Miranda Hart ("Call the Midwife") and Martin Clunes ("Doc Martin"). You can see Smith's full acceptance speech below.
