'Downton Abbey's' Nigel Harman plays Simon Cowell in 'X Factor' musical

i-cant-sing-x-factor-musical.jpgHere's a crazy thing we didn't know was happening -- there's a musical opening in London this spring about the U.K. "X Factor."

"I Can't Sing: The X Factor Musical" is billed as "an affectionate poke at the world's most talked about talent show" and it's being produced by Simon Cowell's company, Syco Entertainment.

But what makes it even better is that Cowell is being played on stage by Nigel Harman, most recently seen in the U.S. as a rapist on "Downton Abbey."

We repeat: The "Downton Abbey" rapist is playing Simon Cowell in a musical about "The X Factor."

We can hardly wrap our minds around it. Sure, Harman is known in England for many other things ("EastEnders," "Hotel Babylon"), but in the U.S., he's really only been seen as Mr. Green, the despicable valet to Lord Gillingham on "Downton."

But wait! There's more!

There is video of Harman performing one of the songs, "Fabulous," at the National TV Awards this week in England. Watch below, as he sings about how it's not easy being Simon Cowell, though he does have "cash by the pot and a big friggin' yacht."

More information can be found here, if you're going to be in London in the next few months. "I Can't Sing" opens in February.
