In 2008, "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog" became one of the first successful pieces of Internet-only entertainment. Created by Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon, Zack Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen and starring Neil Patrick Harris, Nathan Fillion and Felicia Day, "Dr. Horrible" has gotten more than 50 million views.

Whedon and his collaborators have been hinting at a sequel for years, but it hasn't happened. Will it ever? According to Jed Whedon ( "Agents of SHIELD"), the answer is yes. A "Dr. Horrible 2" will be made.

It just might not be any time soon.

Here is Whedon's statement to EW.com on the matter:

"We know we have spoken publicly about a sequel in the near distance and our passion to create it, and I promise we have not been insincere. 'Horrible' is still one of our favorite creations by humans who were also us. We have many songs written and the plot outlined, but needless to say, we've been busy. Joss has had a hectic couple of years and is in the middle of the busiest year of his life, as is Zack and as are we. Also the actors have other things they're acting in, I think. So the future is uncertain, our passion remains. 'DH2' will exist, in some format or another, at some point in the future. Unfortunately, the when is still unclear."

A semi-tragic comedy and musical, "Dr. Horrible" told the story of a wannabe super-villain (Harris) trying to win the girl of his dreams (Day) back from a wholesome-but-awful superhero (Fillion). Although the original, three-part web series did have a distinct ending, both fans and creators have long expressed interest in more of the tale.
