'EastEnders': British soap to kill major character at Easter

" EastEnders," the long-running British soap opera, will kill off the character of Lucy Beale around Easter of 2014. Stories related to the character's death will continue throughout the year and will not be resolved until the show's 30th anniversary in February 2015.

Lucy, the 20-year-old daughter of Ian Beale ( Adam Woodyatt), is no stranger to trouble, and her death will be related to a dark secret hidden by a Walford resident (as reported by the Daily Mail).

"It's been so cleverly plotted that it isn't a typical whodunit. It's going to be raw, emotional and gritty," a source from "EastEnders" spilled to the British press. "It will see her dad Ian start to question how well he really knew his daughter as secrets will spill out after her death."

Dominic Treadwell-Collins, the executive producer of "EastEnders," hinted at the coming death in late 2013, teasing a big plot that would "hit around Easter and keep going until the anniversary."

Lucy is currently played by Hetti Bywater; she's the fourth actress to play the character since Lucy's birth in 1993.
