'Elementary' Season 1 episode 22 recap: Natalie Dormer debuts as Irene Adler in 'Risk Management'

elementary-risk-management-jonny-lee-miller-lucy-liu.jpgSherlock Holmes was in for quite a shock in the penultimate episode of "Elementary" Season 1, as his former love Irene Adler ( Natalie Dormer of "Game of Thrones") turned out to be very much alive.

Holmes spent much of the episode playing one of Moriarty's games and it seems like the mysterious bad guy sent him straight to Irene's secret location -- a stately mansion where she has been quietly working on her painting, while Sherlock assumed she was dead.

"Risk Management" showed us something we don't often see: Sherlock in a state of confusion. "Most puzzles I see from the outside and it gives me a certain clarity. I'm right in the center of this one and it's blurred my vision, to say the least," he confesses to Watson.

Now the question becomes: Is this really Irene? And since it appears that it is, did she fake her own death or is there more to the story than Sherlock has revealed to Watson? And what is Moriarty's involvement in all of this?

So far "Elementary" hasn't exactly been playing by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's books, and it doesn't need to. The better to surprise viewers.

We just hope at least some of these questions are answered in next week's two-hour finale. And -- since her appearance here didn't come until the final moments -- we're eager to get to see what Irene is like and what Dormer does with the role.

What do you think will happen in next week's "Elementary" finale and how would you like to see Season 1 end?
