Elizabeth Smart to publicly face her kidnapper Brian David Mitchell

elizabeth-smart-getty.jpgToday (Wednesday, May 25) Elizabeth Smart is due to speak publicly to Brian David Mitchell, the man who kidnapped, raped, and imprisoned her for 9 months in 2002 and 2003. She's told local media that she hasn't decided what she'll say to him, and that her father, Edward, also plans to address him.

Mitchell kidnapped then 14-year-old Smart at knifepoint in 2002 from her family's home in Utah. Smart testified in 2009 that he raped her every day that she was held captive, until she was discovered nine months later in Sandy, Utah, just 20 miles from home.

Mitchell was found guilty on December 10, 2010, for kidnapping and sexual assault charges. Today he will be sentenced in Salt Lake City. Many expect him to receive two life imprisonment sentences. Though Mitchell and Smart were occasionally in the same room during his trial, they have not spoken to each other since he held her captive, when he told her that he was a prophet sent by God to rule on Earth.
