The film made an estimated $34.5 million in its second weekend, down about 65 percent but still going pretty strong. It's now the second highest-grossing movie in the "Fast & Furious" franchise and is on pace to overtake "Fast Five" ($209.8 million) in the next few weeks.

The weekend's two big new releases finished second and third. As was the case on Friday, heist movie "Now You See Me" ($28.05 million) finished a little ahead of "After Earth" ($27 million), constituting something of a surprise. "After Earth," a sci-fi movie starring Will and Jaden Smith, had been projected to make about $35 million.

"Star Trek Into Darkness" and "Epic" tied for fourth this weekend with $16.4 million each. "The Hangover Part III" dropped to sixth with $15.9 million, down 62 percent from its opening weekend.

"The East," "The Kings of Summer" and "Hannah Arendt" all performed pretty well in very small releases, each earning at least $14,500 per screen. Bollywood film "Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani" managed to crack the Top 10 despite playing on only 162 screens.
