'Fatkini' blogger Gabi Gregg: I'm empowering women

gabi-gregg-fatkini-today.jpgBeach season can be an intimidating time for some women. But fashion blogger Gabi Gregg says not to fear. The size 18 writer is encouraging women to embrace their curves by showing off in what she's calling a "fatkini."

In an interview on "Today," Gregg tells Tamron Hall that she's started an online gallery on xojane.com of 31 plus-sized ladies donning bikinis. She says it's all part of an effort to help  women be comfortable in their skin.

"I think it's about empowering women," Gregg says. "So often in the media all we see is thin women in bikinis. I want to challenge that and say they're not the only ones."

As for any thoughts that she's promoting an unhealthy lifestyle, Gregg disagrees.

"I'm all for health," Gregg, 25, says. "I think people should be really aware of what they're putting in their bodies and try to get more active. The truth is, we have to live in our bodies and be happy with the bodies we have right now, regardless of where we are in our journey to health."

This is the second year for Gregg and her "fatkini" effort. She began it in 2011 on her fashion site Gabifresh.com.
