'Felicity's' Scott Speedman sails to 'The Last Resort' at ABC

scott-speedman-gi.jpgFormer "Felicity" star Scott Speedman is set for his first TV role since The WB series ended in 2002. He'll star opposite Andre Braugher in ABC's drama pilot "The Last Resort."

The show, created by Karl Gajdusek ("Dead Like Me") and Shawn Ryan ("The Shield," "The Chicago Code"), follows the crew of a nuclear sub that goes rogue after disregarding a suspicious-sounding order. The crew docks on a small island, takes over a NATO outpost and declares itself an independent nation (with nuclear capabilities).

Speedman will play the sub's executive officer, Deadline reports. The show has also cast Camille de Pazzis as a scientist at the NATO station (Braugher is playing the captain of the sub). Speedman has concentrated on movies since "Felicity" ended, appearing in the first two "Underworld" movies and "The Strangers"; he currently co-stars in "The Vow."

Other pilot casting news, as reported by Deadline:

- "Eureka" star Colin Ferguson will play the lead role in "Like Father," a comedy pilot at FOX from creator Bill Lawrence ("Cougar Town," "Scrubs"). He'll play a recently widowed man who moves in with his college-age son. Phil Lewis ("The Suite Life on Deck," "Scrubs") and Kevin Michael Martin have also been cast.

- Malin Akerman and Jean Smart will star with Portia de Rossi in ABC's comedy "The Smart One." Akerman ("Watchmen," "Wanderlust") will play the less sharp but more popular sister of de Rossi's character, and Smart ("Hawaii Five-0," "Harry's Law") will play their mother.

- FOX's comedy "Living Loaded" has added Donald Sutherland to its cast as the father of Mike Vogel's character, a hard-living blogger who has to shape up when he gets a job as a radio host. Sutherland's character is also the general manager of the station.

- Also: "Life Unexpected's" Austin Basis has joined The CW's "Beauty and the Beast"; Eamonn Walker ("The Whole Truth") has signed on to NBC's drama "Chicago Fire"; and Sarayu Rao and Emily Swallow are in for TNT's medical drama "Chelsea General."
