First Lady Michelle Obama on 'The Tonight Show': President Obama sings to her all the time

First Lady Michelle Obama is the premiere guest on Tuesday night's (Jan. 31) "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno." And of course the hot topic was President Obama's impromptu vocal performance at The Apollo.

"That was completely spontaneous. I didn't even hear about it until it got on YouTube," says Mrs. Obama. "But he does have a beautiful voice. He sings to me all the time. He sings that song! That's why when people said he sang, I said, 'I bet he sang Al Green.'"

"He sings a lot of Al Green, Marvin Gaye, little Stevie. He likes the classics," she continues. But the first daughters are not so excited about dad's singing.

"Oh, no. Anything we do is highly embarrassing," says Mrs. Obama.

And what about Mitt Romney's try at singing?

"... Beautiful!" Mrs. Obama laughs. "And it is America's song and it's a song that is meant to be sung by every American."

The conversation turns to the upcoming general election and Leno points out that if the Republican primary is this ugly, the general should be pretty brutal.

"There's really no way to prepare for it. You just take each day as it comes," says Mrs. Obama. "I think Barack and I, our motto is we try to do the best job that we can do every single day and the hope is that that will speak for itself."
