Funk legend Sly Stone homeless, living in a van

sly-stone-gi.jpgIn the early '70s he was the king of funk, but Sly Stone -- one-time frontman of Sly and the Family Stone -- is now homeless and living in a van on the Los Angeles streets.

Despite having once lived in a Bel-Air mansion and, as recently as four years ago, living on what the New York Post describes as a "compound" in California's Napa Valley, Stone is almost penniless and living out of a van he calls "Pleasure Way."

According to Page Six, Stone lost his fortune through a combination of financial mismanagement, spending and drug use and lives a somewhat paranoid existence. He allegedly believes the FBI is after him and that his enemies have hired hitmen to take him out.

Sly and the Family Stone was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993. The band's hits include "Dance to the Music," "Everyday People" and "I Want to Take You Higher."
