FX picks up 'Tyrant' to series; 'Homeland' producers' drama set for summer 2014

adam-rayner-tyrant-gi.jpgFX has given a series order to "Tyrant," an ambitious, Middle East-set drama from "Homeland" executive producers Gideon Raff and Howard Gordon and "Six Feet Under" and "Dirty Sexy Money" veteran Craig Wright.

The show follows the son ( Adam Rayner) of a fictional Middle Eastern country's dictator, who has distanced himself from his family and built a life in the United States. His circumstances change, however, when he brings his wife and children back to his home country for a wedding and he's drawn into the small- and large-scale politics of his family.

"With 'Tyrant,' Howard Gordon, Gideon Raff and Craig Wright have produced a beautiful television pilot that will be a groundbreaking television series," FX CEO John Landgraf says. "'Tyrant' introduces characters and a world that have never been explored in a dramatic television series format."

Raff write the pilot and will executive produce with Gordon and Wright. David Yates directed the first episode after Ang Lee, initially slated to helm it, dropped out. The series will be shot in Israel.

"Tyrant's" cast also includes Jennifer Finnigan, Ashraf Barhom, Moran Atias, Anne Winters, Noah Silver, Justin Kirk, Jordana Spiro, Mehdi Debi, Alice Krige and Salim Daw.
