Actor Clive Mantle had his ear bitten off at a Travelodge after asking his fellow guests to be quieter. According to reports, the "Game of Thrones" star was in Newcastle after appearing in a touring production of The Ladykillers.

The Press Association has learned that a 32-year-old South Lanarkshire man was charged with wounding with intent. Mantle underwent emergency surgery in order to save his ear after the man bit it off at around 4:30 a.m.

"He is very shaken and shocked by what has happened, you don't expect this kind of thing to happen in a hotel," Mantle's spokesperson says in a statement. "The part of the ear that was bitten off was found and sewn back on. Mr Mantle said the police, ambulance and hospital staff were amazing."

The man who attacked Mantle will appear in court in April. A second man was released from jail on bail, while a third was released without charge. Mantle is known for playing Greatjon Umber in HBO's "Game of Thrones." He will not continue to tour with The Ladykillers for the time being.
