'Game of Thrones' Season 4 gains Joel Fry: Who is Hizdahr zo Loraq?
The final new cast member for "Game of Thrones" Season 4 seems to be in place. British actor Joel Fry has joined the show as Hizdahr zo Loraq, a character who becomes entangled in Daenerys' storyline.
This news comes courtesy of Entertainment Weekly, who describes the character as the "young scion of an ancient Meereenese family who crosses paths with Daenerys Targaryen." Dany hasn't traveled to Meereen yet, but this is a big enough hint that that's where she's heading in Season 4.
Across the Narrow Sea, there are three major Slaver Cities of Slaver's Bay. Daenerys already conquered two of them -- Astapor and Yunkai -- in Season 3, so it makes sense that she'll continue her quest to liberate the slaves in that area before focusing on retaking Westeros. After all, she needs to have as big an army of loyal followers as possible to retake her homeland.
So who is Hizdahr zo Loraq? Yet another new face trying to manipulate Daenerys as a ruler, surely. It's interesting that his character is being introduced now, since Hizdahr is only brought into the book series in "A Dance With Dragons" (book five). But since Daenerys doesn't appear in "A Feast For Crows" (book 4), which Season 4 is largely based on, it makes sense that her book 5 storyline will be brought in so soon.
"Game of Thrones" Season 4 premieres on HBO in Spring 2014.
