'Game of Thrones' video game will be 'multi-year' and 'multi-title'
Some new details about the upcoming project come via press release, which says the deal between Telltale Games and HBO Global Licensing is a "multi-year, multi-title partnership." That means fans will getting multiple installments of the "Game of Thrones" game over several years at least.
Thus far the closest thing Telltale has done to this project is their "The Walking Dead" series. The first "season" of that game (five chapters of one story arc released over the course of a year) earned the Game of the Year title at the Spike Video Game Awards in 2012 and was a total success. With "Season 2" coming out soon, it's easy to see the format Telltale can follow with the "Game of Thrones" games.
This "Game of Thrones" title is slated for a 2014 episodic digital release for "home consoles, PC/Mac, and mobile devices." No plot details have been revealed about the game.
"We're delighted to be working with Telltale Games, a proven leader in the creation of engaging interactive content," HBO Director of Global Licensing Josh Goodstadt says in a statement. "Our fans are always looking for new, exciting ways to engage with the Game of Thrones brand and this game series will put them right in the middle of the action by letting them decide where the story will lead. This brings a whole new dimension to the world of Westeros."
