Now a spokesman for Bush tells the Associated Press the fever that kept the ex-president hospitalized through the Christmas holiday has worsened. "It's a stubborn fever that won't go away," says the Bush rep.

Bush is now on a liquid diet after suffering what the spokesman calls, "a series of setbacks."

Early on in Bush's treatment at the Methodist Hospital at Texas Medical Center, his treating physician reported George H.W. was in stable condition after developing a bacterial infection secondary to the pneumonia.
