'Girl Meets World' officially picked up at Disney Channel

girl-meets-world-pickup.jpgThe Disney Channel has given a series pickup to "Girl Meets World," brightening the hearts of former ABC TGIF fans everywhere.

The series, a sequel to "Boy Meets World" that focuses on Cory and Topanga's daughter, is set to premiere in 2014. Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel are reprising their roles as Cory and Topanga, and Rowan Blanchard plays their daughter, Riley, who's entering seventh grade. Sabrina Carpenter also stars as Riley's friend Maya. That's all of them in the photo above.

"'Girl Meets World' is a new show for a new generation that will be rooted in the same kind of honest, comedic storytelling about coming of age and the importance of family and friendship that made 'Boy Meets World' so popular," co-creator Michael Jacobs says.

"Girl Meets World" also stars Teo Halm as Riley's older brother. William Daniels once again plays Mr. Feeny in the pilot.

The series will focus on Riley and her adventures in middle school, where her dad is the new history teacher. Topanga now runs a popular hangout -- specializing in pudding -- for Riley's classmates.
