'Glee': Chris Colfer 'Struck by Lightning' in big-screen debut

Colfer will star in "Struck by Lightning," a coming-of-age comedy that's in the early stages of development. David Permut ("Youth in Revolt," "Face/Off") is producing the movie and is in the process of hiring a director. There's no studio or distributor attached yet, Variety reports.

Colfer, an Emmy nominee this year for playing Kurt on "Glee," also wrote the script for "Struck by Lightning," which Permut describes as John Hughes-esque. Few other details are available -- there's no word, for instance, on whether Colfer will get to showcase his singing in the movie.

Prior to "Glee," Colfer's only other credit was a short film called "Russel Fish: The Sausage and Eggs Incident" that played at a couple of festivals. He also did voice work on "Marmaduke."

Filming on "Struck by Lightning" is scheduled for the summer during "Glee's" hiatus.
