'Glee' creator Ryan Murphy to Newsweek: 'Open your heart' or we boycott

Earlier this week, former "Pushing Daisies" star and "Glee" favorite Kristin Chenoweth slammed Newsweek for publishing an article she deemed "horrendously homophobic." The article claimed that gay actor Sean Hayes wasn't believable in his role as a heterosexual man in "Promises, Promises," which he stars in with Chenoweth.

Now, "Glee" creator Ryan Murphy has joined Chenoweth in denouncing Ramin Setoodeh, the author of the article, and Newsweek itself. Murphy calls for GLAAD's support in a boycott of the magazine. He calls Setoodeh "a gay man deeply in need of some education" and asks fans not to support Newsweek until Setoodeh not only "apologizes to those he has deeply offended but pauses before he picks up his poison pen again to work through the issues of his own self loathing.

The article hits close to home for Murphy. In addition to Hayes, the article called out Jonathan Groff, a gay actor who plays Jesse St. James, Lea Michele's decidedly straight love interest on "Glee."
