'Glee's' Mercedes moment: Rachel Berry never even saw her coming
Mercedes ( Amber Riley) has been singing in the shadow of Rachel Berry ( Lea Michele) for two-plus seasons, so it doesn't come as much of a surprise that at some point, that volcano was gonna go. And on Tuesday's (Oct. 4) episode, Mercedes finally blew her top.
And, as we mentioned in our previous Mike Chang love letter, "Glee" is so back, we're starting to think the second season was just a bad dream.
Anyhow, back to Mercedes -- she went head-to-head with Rachel for the lead in "West Side Story" and when she wasn't satisfied with the outcome -- double-casting -- she stormed out of New Directions and offered her "star power" to Shelby's ( Idina Menzel's) second school glee club.
The fact that we're so conflicted about this is proof positive that Ryan Murphy and his new writing team are headed in a new, and totally awesome, direction. And while Rachel and Mercedes battled it out, we benefited from a few extra helpings of Amber Riley performances and a ridiculously beautiful duet of "FAME's" "Out Here on My Own."
If you missed it, be sure to listen to Rachel and Mercedes put aside their differences to sing the hell out of this song:
