Google always knows the most creative ways to honor important dates and icons: through their daily doodles!

Monday (August 12) was no different, as the search engine celebrated the life of physicist and Nobel Prize winner Erwin Schrödinger, a founder of quantum physics who had the foresight to use cats to explain things long before Internet cat videos became cool. His most famous contribution to physics was his experiment, "Scrödinger's Cat," which helped explain quantum mechanics.

So happy birthday, Schrödinger, a.k.a. the first hipster -- he used cats before cat videos were even a thing.
