'Gossip Girl': Show likely to be picked up for shortened final season
The Wrap is reporting that the Upper East Siders will be back for an abbreviated sixth and final season, this according to a source close to the show. If this is the case, this meshes well with what EP Stephanie Savage said on Jan. 25.
At the time Savage says, "We're not writing a series finale this year."
The CW has not commented publicly on the renewal.
The series has been on the bubble because of waning ratings. In its first season in 2007, the show averaged 2.35 million viewers. However these numbers have dropped precipitously. The most recent new episode, which aired on Feb. 27, drew just 1.2 million watchers and a 0.8 share in the 18-49 demo.
