'Green Arrow' pilot almost a go at The CW

smallville-justin-hartley.jpgThe CW is planning a Green Arrow series, according to Deadline Hollywood, and will likely order a pilot of the new show very soon.

There's one catch -- it's not a "Smallville" spinoff, and Justin Hartley, who played the character on the long-running superhero series, has nothing to do with it.

The new hourlong drama would take the iconic character, a.k.a. ultra-rich former Star City mayor Oliver Queen, and set him in a new world completely different from the comic books (or the world established on the network's "Smallville," which ran for 10 years).

Greg Berlanti ("Everwood," "No Ordinary Family") and Marc Guggenheim ("Eli Stone"), who wrote "The Green Lantern" together, teamed up with Andrew Kreisberg ("Fringe," "The Vampire Diaries") for the project, which will likely be directed by David Nutter ("Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles," "Supernatural").

What do you think about a Hartley-less Green Arrow? This is a completely different world, so we understand a new actor taking the part, but since Hartley was so good on "Smallville," maybe he should at least get first crack at the role. Hartley recently guest starred in an episode of "Chuck" and can next be seen in an upcoming episode of "Castle" alongside fellow CW alum Hilarie Burton.
