Green Day singer Billie Joe Armstrong talks rehab in Rolling Stone

"I couldn't predict where I was going to end up at the end of the night," says Armstrong. "I'd wake up in a strange house on a couch. I wouldn't remember how. It was a complete blackout."

Last fall, Green Day canceled their tour when Armstrong entered treatment for substance abuse. The decision came after an onstage meltdown at the IHeartRadio festival in September, where he smashed a guitar and raved about not being Justin Bieber. Armstrong recounts for Rolling Stone what happened next

"The next morning, I woke up. I asked [my wife] Adrienne, 'How bad was it?' She said, 'It's bad.' I called my manager. He said, 'You're getting on a plane, going back to Oakland and going into rehab immediately.'"

Now Armstrong is out of rehab and must be doing better, as Green Day is resuming its tour on March 28. Armstrong's full interview will be on newsstands Friday.
