Guillermo del Toro's 'The Strain' gains Sean Astin and Robert Maillet
Guillermo del Toro's first television series is going to be one to watch for. The new FX supernatural drama "The Strain" has accumulated quite the impressive cast, and it's only getting bigger.
The latest two actors to join the show are "Lord of the Rings" star Sean Astin and "Pacific Rim" alum Robert Maillet. Executive producer Carlton Cuse broke the news about Astin's involvement over Twitter, writing, "We are thrilled to have the amazing Sean Astin join the cast of THE STRAIN."
It's being reported that Astin will play CDC team administrator Jim Kent in the vampire TV show. Meanwhile Deadline reports that Maillet will play the world-conquering vampire The Master, a villain on the show.
Also starring in the series are Corey Stoll, who plays CDC Dr. Ephraim Goodweather; Mia Maestro, who plays CDC Dr. Nora Martinez; Kevin Durand as vampire slayer Vasily Fet; and John Hurt as Professor Abraham Setrakian. Doug Jones teased to Zap2it that there's a role for him in the show.
