Gymnast Gabby Douglas talks about being bullied on 'Oprah's Next Chapter'
Oprah Winfrey interviewed 2012 Summer Olympics darling (and all-around gold medalist) Gabby Douglas on the latest episode of "Oprah's Next Chapter" Sunday (Aug. 26). During the interview, Gabby reveals that fellow gymnasts would pick on her for being different and it made her want to move away from her gym.
Gabby's mom talks about how Gabby started wanting to move the whole family away from their Virginia Beach-area home when she was only 11 so she could train at a different gym. Then by the time she was 14, Gabby was ready to move away all by herself, which is what she did -- a host family in Des Moines took Gabby in so she could train at Chow's gym, the same place Olympian Shawn Johnson trained.
But it wasn't just wanting to be trained by the best that made Gabby want to move away from home.
"I felt I was being bullied and isolated from the group. Just, they treated me not how they would treat their other teammates," says Gabby.
Gabby also takes Oprah to her gym in Des Moines, where Oprah tries her hand at a balance beam routine. Video below.
