'Harry Potter' director David Yates replacing Ang Lee for FX pilot 'Tyrant'

david-yates-gi.jpg"Harry Potter" veteran David Yates is stepping in to replace Ang Lee as the director of FX's high-profile drama pilot "Tyrant."

It's another big get for the project from executive producer Howard Gordon ("Homeland") which is expected to receive a series order and will film a pilot in Morocco this summer.

Gideon Raff wrote the pilot's script about an unassuming American family drawn into the workings of a turbulent Middle Eastern nation. Gordon developed the series with Craig Wright ("Six Feet Under"), who will serve as showrunner.

FX made a splash by announcing two-time Oscar winner Lee would direct his first TV pilot, but the filmmaker had to bow out last month due to an overwhelming schedule. By landing Yates as his replacement, they now have a filmmaker with four blockbuster "Potter" films to his credit as well as long line of quality TV credits in his native UK including the acclaimed miniseries "State of Play."
