'Harry Potter's' Daniel Radcliffe: 'I won't pretend that I'm naturally gifted'
He's not giving anyone the opportunity to write him off. Currently starring on Broadway in "How To Succeed In Business," Radcliffe is wearing himself out and staying relevant.
"I won't pretend that I'm naturally gifted in any of these things, but anything I have achieved I've achieved through hard work I suppose.," he says. "With the dance particularly there were just some days when I was just so tired."
So tired that he took some rather unpleasant measures to get a little sleep in. "There was one time when I was in my dance class and we were like two and a quarter hours in and I had 45 minutes left. I was like, 'How am I going to get through the last 45 minutes of this lesson?' I actaully went to the toilet, sat down on the toilet with the lid down, put my phone alarm on for 5 minutes and just went to sleep for like 5 minutes. I just woke up thinking 'Jesus, I'm not sure I'm going to be able to hack it.'"
His "Potter" co-stars have left their stamp of approval on his new endeavor. "David Thewlis' reaction was the sweetest," he says. "I know David and he's a lovely guy and I don't think in all the time that we spent together we've ever talked about musicals. I know he's not a deep, heavy guy, but when someone's in that film naked, you go 'musicals probably aren't your thing!'"
Radcliffe says he wasn't interested in "taking the easy option and immediately signing up for another huge, tentpole fantasy series" after "Potter" wrapped. He even wants to write screenplays!
