'Hawaii Five-0': Terrence Howard flashes back with Danny

terrence-howard-five-0-gi.jpgThe "Hawaii Five-0" episode that will flash back to Danny's mainland past just got a little more interesting.

Oscar nominee Terrence Howard ("Hustle & Flow," "Red Tails") has joined the episode as a figure from Danny's ( Scott Caan) time as a cop in Newark, N.J., EW reports. Howard joins Ving Rhames in the episode's guest cast, and like Rhames' character, the guy Howard is playing is not a big fan of Detective Williams.

The guest spot will be Howard's first TV work since "Law & Order: LA" was canceled after the 2010-11 season. He starred in "Red Tails" earlier this year and has a bunch of films lined up for release in the relatively near future, including "On the Road" with Kristen Stewart and the Robert Redford-directed "The Company You Keep."

Season 3 of "Hawaii Five-0" premieres Monday, Sept. 24. Howard's episode is scheduled to air in October.
