HBO lets 'Luck' ride for a second season
The series, about the characters who gather around a horse track, stars Dustin Hoffman, Nick Nolte, Dennis Farina and Richard Kind, among others. David Milch ("Deadwood") created it and executive produces with Michael Mann ("Public Enemies," "Heat") and Carolyn Strauss.
"We couldn't be more thrilled with the critical response to this beautiful piece of work," says Michael Lombardo, president of HBO Programming. "We are very excited about where David and Michael plan to take these incredible characters."
With the big names involved in front of and behind the camera, the fast renewal isn't much of a surprise. HBO says the premiere has drawn a "gross audience" of 3.3 million viewers to date. That number includes a preview of the episode that ran in December and was seen by about 1.1 million people, as well as some repeat airings.
The Season 2 pickup is for 10 episodes (one more than this season). Production will resume in late February, and the new season is on tap for January 2013.
