'Hemlock Grove' from Eli Roth to premiere on Netflix: Watch the trailer now

hemlock-grove-poster-netflix.jpgAt Wednesday's Television Critics Association press day, Netflix presented their first slate of original programming, including the supernatural thriller "Hemlock Grove" from director Eli Roth. Adapted from Brian McGreevy's debut novel, all 13 episodes of the series will become available on Netflix on April 19 -- perfect for marathon viewing.

The series opens when a young high school girl is murdered in the town of Hemlock Grove, an old steel town in Pennsylvania. McGreevy tells us that an "assembly of very odd characters, harboring secrets and agendas, get caught up in [the case]." The timing of the murder coincides with the arrival of "gypsy kid" Peter Rumancek, played by "Terra Nova" star Landon Liboiron, in town.

As part of Netflix's first original slate, "Hemlock Grove" isn't beholden to usual network standards. Expect plenty of sex and violence. In fact, McGreevy says that when he was shopping the series, he didn't even bother trying to tailor the show to a broadcast network. "We definitely had excluded conventional broadcast networks," he says, "because the jefe of the show is Eli Roth. We were looking to be roughly on par with Showtime, HBO level."
