FOX has ordered 13 episodes of "Hieroglyph," an action-adventure series set in the world of ancient Egypt. Production on the project will begin early in 2014, and no release date has been announced.

The show comes from executive producers Peter Chernin ( "New Girl"), Katherine Pope ("New Girl"), Travis Beacham ( "Pacific Rim") and Miguel Sapochnik ( "Fringe"). Beacham also wrote the pilot script and Sapochnik will direct that episode. FOX has not yet announced casting for the project.

"Hieroglyph" will take place in ancient Egypt, a setting in which fantasy and reality meet. The show follows a thief taken from prison in order to serve the Pharaoh. In the process, this thief will have to navigate palace intrigue, concubines and seductresses, criminals and possibly even a few sorcerers.

"We wanted to do a show about deceit, sex, intrigue in the court and fantastical goings-on -- no better place to set that than ancient Egypt," said FOX chairman Kevin Reilly in a statement. "Travis Beacham has an inventive mind, and he has wrapped this all together in this intoxicating new drama."
