Hillary Clinton inks book deal; memoir coming in 2014

Clinton is working on a memoir for Simon & Schuster about her years as secretary of state under President Obama. There is no title available yet, but it is tentatively scheduled for June 2014.

Financial terms were not disclosed, though Clinton reportedly received $8 million for "Living History," her 2003 memoir, which was also published by Simon & Schuster.

Jonathan Karp, president of the Simon & Schuster Publishing Group, says, "Hillary Clinton's extraordinary public service has given her a unique perspective on recent history and the challenges we face. This will be the ultimate book for people who are interested in world affairs and America's place in the world today."

The AP speculates that Clinton will launch her book tour to coincide with the book's release, which will also be during the months leading up to the 2014 midterm elections. It says her itinerary could perhaps indicate a presidential run in 2016.

According to the publishers, this new memoir will focus on everything from the finding and killing of Osama bin Laden to China to climate change. Clinton will "share her views as to what it takes for the United States to secure and sustain prosperity and global leadership."

A source familiar with the book tells the AP that Clinton does not plan to write about the 2008 presidential election. It is not known at this time whether she will touch on the U.S. embassy attack in Benghazi, Libya.

Clinton's first memoir sold over a million copies, setting a record for first-week sales of a non-fiction book.
