'How I Met Your Mother' finale: Cobie Smulders sounds off on Season 6, Robin and Barney

Canadian, devastatingly funny and frequently bedazzled, Cobie Smulders is not unlike her "How I Met Your Mother" alter ego.

But as fans of the show may have noticed, Robin took a bit of a back seat in Season 6 to Marshall ( Jason Segel) and Lily's ( Alyson Hannigan) family issues, Barney's ( Neil Patrick Harris) coming of age and Ted's ( Josh Radnor) continued romantic follies.

Zap2it met with Smulders while filming of the Season 6 finale (enjoying a handsome-looking cup of soup), and the actress praised the serious storylines tackled by the show this season.

"It's so great to come to work every day," she says. "There's always something to get you excited. I feel like it's been a great season for Marshall and Lily, with the storyline about them trying to have kids and the death of Marshall's father. They felt like such great, real-life issues that deserve to be showcased... other than me being an '80s pop star."

But the end of the season marks some non-Sparkles developments for Robin. She recently ran into a crush ( Michael Trucco) we've been promised more of, and, during the finale ("Challenge Accepted"), old feelings for Barney may stir when the pair run into his recent flame Nora (Nazanin Boniadi).

Smulders remains predictably coy when it comes to the "Barney" question.

"Their relationship is a funny one," she says. "Barney and Robin as people, they're sort the ever-single people. I think their relationship was awesome, but it was very flawed. I think it will be hard for Robin to actually see him take a chance with someone and go all in on a relationship... but I don't know."

Maybe we'll know more after the Season 6 finale, which airs tonight on CBS, at 8:00 p.m. ET.
