Josh Radnor, Cobie Smulders, Neil Patrick Harris, Jason Segel and Alyson Hannigan were all on hand for the panel discussion and a more intimate press room conversation afterward. Here are the Season 9-related highlights from the press room:

Josh Radnor on the overall storyline of Season 9: "There's a mass migration to the Far Hampton Inn for Barney and Robin's wedding. There are problems along the way because that's what happens in television. We pick up literally where we left off in Season 8 ... We're not abandoning the structure of the show and what made the show feel so playful and inventive."

Cobie Smulders on her feelings heading toward the finale: "I have heightened emotions. We [recently] did our first interview [about the finale] and they were like, 'What are you gonna miss the most?' and I literally started to cry. On set it hasn't quite sunk in. After the holidays we have [the final] six episodes, that's gonna be a really intense time for everyone."

Neil Patrick Harris on his feelings heading toward the finale: "I'm a little more part robot. I compartmentalize things and I'm not a fan of goodbyes. I don't want to spend the time we have on the show lamenting its demise. I want to make sure we're enjoying it as opposed to being wistful about it."

Josh Radnor on working with Cristin Milioti as "the mother": "I read with her. We saw her in her musical ['Once'] on Broadway and she was amazing. We brought her in under cover of darkness -- like really top secret [to audition and film the Season 8 finale cameo] ... She has an easygoing personality, she's easy to fold into this very tight knit group. That's the luck of the chemistry draw. When they cast the five of us they didn't know if it would work and obviously it did. Maybe we have chemistry karma."

Co-creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas on writing for "the mother" now that Milioti has been cast: "Once you have an actor it's different. You write to that actors strengths." -- Thomas

"It's like getting married in real life. You can picture who the person is you're gonna marry but you don't really know until you see that person. And then after that moment you can't imagine anyone else." -- Bays

Jason Segel on when Marshall will reveal his career news to Lilly: "It seems like it's something that Marshall wants to tell her in person, which I think is smart. I don't know how they've planned time-wise for the season but they could wrap [the storyline] up in the finale for all we know."

Alyson Hannigan on what she knows about the final season: "I don't want to know too much because I'm a terrible liar so I don't want to [have to tell you], 'Oh I don't know!'"

Co-creator Carter Bays on the Comic-Con video featuring Ted's grown-up kids (Lyndsy Fonseca and David Henrie): "This whole season for us is largely about the way it is at weddings -- seeing all these people we haven't seen in a million years. [The Comic-Con video] was a nice way to start off this season which is going to be a cavalcade of people we've seen before."

Co-creator Craig Thomas on the game plan for the series finale: "The very end has not changed. We thought we'd be done after eight seasons. Season 9 is the bonus year -- it's the Wild West, anything can happen."

Director Pamela Fryman on the creative team's feelings about the ending: "I think we're all so excited about this. So many of the stories have been broken for the season so we really know exactly where we're going. It's truly how we dreamed of finishing this out."
