The "How I Met Your Mother" spinoff -- "How I Met Your Dad" -- is set for a pilot at CBS. "HIMYM" co-creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas will write and executive-produce the series with Emily Spivey ( "Up All Night").

This new spinoff will tell a similar story to the original, only this time telling the tale from the point-of-view of a woman. Production company 20th Century Fox Television has described the project as a new story with new characters, told in the spirit of the original series.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the plan is to shoot the pilot as a stand-alone episode and not as a back-door pilot planted into the current "HIMYM" season. Further connections between the original and spinoff series are not known at this time.

Thanks to strengthening ratings over the last few seasons, "How I Met Your Mother" has become one of CBS' most solid comedies. It is the highest-rated show on the network's Monday-night lineup and the series attracting the youngest audience across the network.
