I'll Have Another out of 144th Belmont Stakes - no Triple Crown winner this year

ill-have-another-belmont-stakes.jpgSome sad news from the world of horse racing Friday, June 8 - I'll Have Another, the 4-5 favorite for the 144th running of the Belmont Stakes and a Triple Crown hopeful after winning the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness, is out of Saturday's race.

Trainer Doug O'Neill tells The Dan Patrick Show, "I'll Have Another is officially out of the Belmont." The details about I'll Have Another's injury are sparse right now, but O'Neill says it looks like tendinitis of the left front leg and that the horse will rest for three months. He adds that the horse may have run his last race.

So no Triple Crown try this year. The prestigious horse racing award has not been won since 1978, when Affirmed won the Derby, Preakness and Belmont.
