iPad 2 Announcement: Release date plus all the details on the newest update

apple-ipad-2.jpgApple CEO Steve Jobs returned from medical leave for a media event on Wednesday, March 2 for a very special announcement: The iPad 2 is coming! It'll be available in stores at 5 p.m. on March 11. You can also order them online on that date.

If, like us, you're not super tech-savvy, don't fear! We've got the basic run-down of all the best new iPad 2 features and options below. The WiFi version starts at $499 -- the same price the first version of the iPad started at.

Two cameras.
The iPad 2 will have a camera on each side that's good for video, photos, and FaceTime chatting with everyone who has an iPhone 4, an iPad 2, or a Mac computer. Yes -- FaceTime for the iPad!

New, thin size.
The iPad 2 will be only 8.8 mm thick - thinner than any other iPad, and even thinner than the iPhone 4.

A faster processer.
The iPad 2 is nine times faster than the iPad. The battery life is the same as the old iPad - it can last for 10 active hours, and one month in standby mode.

Verizon!
The iPad 2 works with an AT&T 3G network, and also on the Verizon network.

Two colors:
The iPad 2's frame will be available in black and in white. Both colors are available on March 11.

Software updates: Safari will work faster, iTunes will now work with home sharing, and AirPlay will stream better than ever.

PhotoBooth, iMovie, and GarageBand be available for the iPad 2.
You can use all of PhotoBooth's fun effects on your photos, and since the camera does take video, iMovie will let you edit your footage right there on the iPad. iMovie has been tweaked to work especially on the iPad, so the touch-screen will give you even better control. GarageBand's touch instruments will give you a whole new way to make music.

Also exciting:
Apple has designed a much better case that attaches to the iPad with magnets. They're also making an HDMI-out cable available so you can connect the iPad to your TV easily.
