A new season of "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" has arrived, and it's one of the shows being used to launch a brand new network, FXX. At the network's launch party Tuesday (September 3), Zap2it caught up with "Always Sunny" star Charlie Day to talk about what fans should look forward to from the upcoming season.
"I can't wait for them to see 'The Gang Broke Dee', which is a pretty funny episode," Charlie says. "You get to see her do stand up again." Day also talks about an episode where the gang tries to win an award for the bar, a not-so-subtle wink to the show never getting any love come award season, and what he calls a "high-concept" episode that features an animated sequence.
As for Charlie's undying and often creepy love for The Waitress (Day's real-life wife Mary Elizabeth Ellis), he says, "He's not getting anywhere fast, but there's a couple great moments this year." Charlie previously told Zap2it that the animated sequence mentioned for the high-concept episode features what might happen if a relationship from the two happened. However, he admitted, "The reality of the two of them working out, I'm not sure about that."
Charlie also talks about moving to FXX, saying it's good the network actually trusts the show enough to lead the charge. "It's like the wild west. It's a new area for us to launch more shows and we're going to need shows if we're going to start a network. So, I'm excited for the opportunity for shows to be pitched."
"It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" Season 9 premieres with "The Gang Broke Dee," Wednesday at 10 p.m. ET on FXX. To find out how to get FXX on your TV, check out GetFXX.com.
