James Gandolfini dead: 'Sopranos' actor dies suddenly at 51
Deadline reports that Gandolfini was in Italy when he died after suffering a suspected heart attack on Wednesday (June 19). The actor was in Rome on holiday with his family, his managers confirmed.
HBO has issued a statement on the actor's passing, saying, "We're all in shock and feeling immeasurable sadness at the loss of a beloved member of our family. He was special man, a great talent, but more importantly a gentle and loving person who treated everyone no matter their title or position with equal respect. He touched so many of us over the years with his humor, his warmth and his humility. Our hearts go out to his wife and children during this terrible time. He will be deeply missed by all of us."
Gandolfini, of course, became a Hollywood legend after winning the role of Tony Soprano in the hit HBO series in 1999. The role won him three Emmy awards during the show's six-season run.
The actor is survived by wife Deborah Lin, with whom he had a daughter in October 2012. He also has a teenage son from a previous marriage. Our thoughts remain with his family; our hearts remain heavy.
