Jason Segel's busy 2011 just got busier. The "How I Met Your Mother" actor and star/writer of "The Muppets" has signed on to play the title character in "Undercover Cop," a comedy about -- wait for it -- an undercover cop in the 1980s. That's about all that studio DreamWorks is saying at the moment, except that the movie is inspired by the true story of an officer who infiltrated the New Jersey underworld in the '80s. Director Zack Snyder has zeroed in on three actresses for a lead role in his "Superman" movie -- but the role is not Lois Lane. The trio on the short list are Diane Kruger ("Inglourious Basterds," "National Treasure"), Rosamund Pike ("An Education," "Pride & Prejudice") and Alice Eve ("She's Out of My League," "Sex and the City 2") -- so we're guessing maybe the character is a blonde? Eva Green is set to star opposite Johnny Depp in Tim Burton's big-screen version of "Dark Shadows." Green ("Casino Royale," Starz's "Camelot") will play Angelique, a witch who has a volatile relationship with Depp's vampire Barnabas Collins. [ Deadline]

"The Town" director Ben Affleck may have found his next behind-the-camera project. He's in talks to direct "Argo," a thriller about a CIA plan to free six U.S. diplomats during the Iranian hostage ordeal in 1979 -- a plan that involved elaborate disguises and the front of a fake sci-fi movie. George Clooney and Grant Heslov are producing. [ Hollywood Reporter]

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced the performers for the best original song nominees at the Feb. 27 awards. Gwyneth Paltrow will sing "Coming Home" from "Country Strong"; A.R. Rahman and Florence Welch of Florence + The Machine will perform "If I Rise" from "127 Hours"; Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi will sing "I See the Light" from "Tangled," accompanied by composer Alan Menken; and Randy Newman will sing his song "We Belong Together" from "Toy Story 3."
