Jennifer Hudson's family's killer William Balfour sentenced to three consecutive life terms

Cook County Circuit Judge Charles Burns sentenced Balfour to three consecutive life sentences for the slayings, plus 120 years for the underlying felonies of home invasion and aggravated kidnapping, reports the AP.

At the time of the shootings, Balfour was married to Hudson's sister Julia but they were estranged, and he reportedly shot the family members in a jealous rage because she had begun dating someone new.

Prior to the sentencing, Balfour read a brief statement in court: "My condolences go out to the family. My deepest sympathies go to Julian King. I loved him. I still love him."

Judge Burns said during the sentencing that Balfour's crimes "send a chill through all of us" and that Balfour's soul "is as barren as dark space."

"The fact that you can stand in court and tell us you love that child is an insult to all of us," he adds.

Hudson (pictured above with her husband David Otunga) was in attendance at the sentencing and may release the victim impact statement she read to the court later Tuesday.
